My experience in Siwa oasis was wonderful. There are too many to talk about or we would be here for a long while. So here are some of my favorite experiences.

1.Learning self defense with Amar. Amar is Lucas' teacher for Marshal arts and other things. I got to participate in a few of the classes which was a lot of fun. Amar's style is a mix of many different martial arts as well as dance.

2) Playing the the Shali fortress. The Shali was a fortress in ancient times and more recent times. People only moved out 50 years ago. The whole thing is made of mud and rocks and salt, kinda like adobe. It had so many rooms and corridors. We played hide and seek and it took forever to complete a game. You could probably have 20 hitters and 5 seekers and it would still take a decent amount of time. It had a perimeter of 100 meters. You could climb all around though you have to be careful. One minute you cane 2 feet off the ground the cross a wall and your more like 10ft off the ground. And the walls crumble a bit so be uber careful that. But it was so much fun.

3) Swimming with Luca, Astra, and Indigo. In Siwa there were something like 200 springs. They are all wonderful. There was one that had so much oxygen that it bubbled. All of them are peaceful. My favorite was Cleopatra spring because it was so big and deep.

4)Playing around the farm.

III.

Ussef the Tuk Tuk driver was taking us to a channel where we would fish for catfish. As we left Camilla’s Garden we heard the shouts of Friday market but we did not stop at Friday market and continued to town. As we drove through town we saw Tuk Tuk drivers zooming past driven by children with many other children in the back. We past the petrol station where their was a line for the pumps. Then we passed the asap juice stand where there are kids asking their mothers for asap. As I look back at town I see the shali illuminated by the sun. The crumbling walls making a maze filled with wonders. BUt that is a story for another time.

Pyramid conspiracy

I think the pyramids were built to send a pulse that would send nitrogen to the soil. How this happened was using the chamber it would cause a chemical that would then cause electricity which would blast out of the golden capstone almost like lightning. They then used copper rods to attract the electricity into the soil that would fill it with nitrogen. They could send this electricity far into the dessert to make fertile soil. This helped them create massive farms that could feed all of Egypt. Since there is lull rain or lightning here they needed artificial “lightning” to add nutrient into the soil.

Scuba diving was so much fun and it has taught me so much . A few of those things are how to clear my mask, buoyancy control and safety. To start off our adventure we had to do lots of paper work :( . Then we went on our first dive ever. there was lots of e-learning and a big test. not all the dives were fun. But Know I am a junior open water Diver! I can dive up to 12 meters.

Diving journal

Location: Eel Garden, Dahab Egypt

Weather: sunny, no breeze, full moon

Conditions: medium tide, calm current got rougher later on

Observations:

Saw five Lion fish hunkered down under a cliff the biggest was 16 inches long and 12 inces wide. Saw a tail spotted squirrel fish under a big piece of coral maybe 8 inches long. Klunzinger wrasse felt it nibble at my toes verry pretty.

Dear past self, here's why you should worldschool.

Here are some reasons why you should agree to world schooling. One reason is that you do a lot of school. Though we try to do school every day. And you get a lot of free time. We still have to agree to go places. But overall we  go to a lot of fun places. As I mentioned earlier, we get a lot of free time. So in dahab we got to play on the beach. In Kulen Vakuf I fished a lot. And in siwa we got to play and swim. We can also help plan. I know I would probably be doing this more than school. Though I miss my friends and family. And oh course my dogs

Dear past self, here's why you should go to Egypt.

There are many amazing places we went to. A few and those were THE Great Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Valley of the nobles, Valley of the workers, Karnak, Luxor Temple, Edfu, Cleopatra spring In siwa, the unfinished Obelisk. Those are the few we saw, It may seem like a lot but think about this. Only 30% of all Egypt's artifacts have been found. My favorite place in Egypt is either Siwa or Dahab. Siwa was a lot of fun because there were so many springs. And you were really in the middle of nowhere. The nearest town was 5 hours away. Probably another reason why it was so amazing was because we stayed at a place with some other siblings that had lived there for a long time. Dahab was nice because we stayed right on the ocean. Me and Ruggles also got a Junior open water diver license. That means we can go up to 12 meters deep. The company that facilitated all 11 dives was Sea dancer. They were quite amazing. So if you go diving in Dahab check them out. But over all what made Egypt so special was the people. They were constantly watching out for us kids. They also were very kind to the whole family. And they were just so friendly and kind. So that didn’t convince you to go to Egypt. I don't know what will.

Wyatt, I enjoyed your posts about Egypt. The Shali Fortress looks like an amazing experience. I can see you, Ruggles and Sawyer playing hide and seek in the mazes. I might be afraid to get lost.

Your nitrogen/copper/lightening pyramid conspiracy is very inventive. I am wondering how you came up with that.

And I LOVE the poetry. Are you doing a poetry unit for your school or just playing with mom? Haiku is definitely one of my favorites and I find the more you do it, the more you see something and think in the Haiku form. Onomatopoeia is fun. I read your poem out loud to hear the sounds. There sure were a lot of cute kittens. I…

About Wide Horizons

What if we found the mute button on the cultural messaging around hustle and money being the only currency to respect/strive for. What if we spent a year listening to other messages from humanity? What if we experienced ourselves outside our bubble of privilege? What if we shared a moment of togetherness in this finite space of childhood.   Our idea to “world school” was born from a year of asking what really matters to us in this moment of time. We realized that while nothing in life is guaranteed that we currently have an abundance of privilege. Health, savings, a home support system, a love for one another and a deep desire to create meaningful experiences together gave us the courage to say yes to this project.
