Ruggles Sri Lanka

Surfing

So far in sri lanka we have done 3 surfing lessons and it has been really fun and surprisingly easy. We wake up eat breakfast then take a tuk tuk to the surfing beach, and a instructor is waiting for us. Then he tells us what we are going to be working on that day, then we practice it for about 5 minutes after that we get in the water and start surfing. Sometimes there are really big waves that he doesn't let you go on but i like the medium sized ones.

Safaris

In sri lanka we have done 2 safaris. On the first one we went out for a full day looking for leopards  and we did see one but it was kinda far away. But we also saw  a sloth bear, monkeys, monitor lizards , deer  and birds like  hawks eagles parakeets  and other ones. On the second one we only went for have a day looking for wild asian elephants and we saw a lot of them eating and throwing water on themselves and other elephant like things. There was one tiny cute baby elephant eating and that was my favorite thing we saw on that safari. My favorite thing we saw on the first one was the leopard and monkeys and on the second one it was the elephants.

On Wednesdays we went to a snake farm. It was like an hour train ride, when we got to the train station we then got a tuk tuk to the snake farm. When we all got there he brang out a Big rock python two tiny tree snakes a tree python and a trinket snake and he let us hold all of them. my favorite What's to hold were the rock python and the tree python. after he held them for a little bit he bring out a cobra then he put that back and bring out another venomous snake and so on and so on. eventually he bring out a king cobra as soon as he put it on the ground it started hissing with its Hood up then it tried to bite him but he was too fast he also had a whole Shelf full of snake venom I think that it was really cool.

One day we went to a turtle Hatchery where there were big big turtles and baby turtles and there was a big turtle that was missing a fin. There were two tanks in full and a bunch of baby turtles in it. While we were looking at baby turtles some turtles crawled out of their eggs and you got to put them in the tanks. After we did that we got some baby turtles that looked the most active out of the tanks. It took them over to the beach and then they started crawling to  the ocean. There was one baby turtle that didn't want to go to the ocean but after a few ways it got some energy and started crawling really  fast. Right before we were leaving the guy who was touring us said that we can tickle one of there sea turtles and how you do it is you just rub your hand over the shell and they start  wiggling  and get really  happy.

One day we went to a beach to  clean up all the trash and while we were there some fishermints were pulling in the net and we got to help. While we were there we found a dead puffer fish. After that we went to a beach with a ton of turtles. Some of them are big, some of them are small. It was also full of people, some people were feeding the turtles and some were just swimming with them. I swim a ton with the sea turtles. Some of them had really big Tails so they were female and the ones with the small tails were male I thought it was really fun swimming with the turtles and I will do it again. there were two main types a sea turtles at the beach it was the olive Ridley sea turtle and the green sea turtle.

About Wide Horizons

What if we found the mute button on the cultural messaging around hustle and money being the only currency to respect/strive for. What if we spent a year listening to other messages from humanity? What if we experienced ourselves outside our bubble of privilege? What if we shared a moment of togetherness in this finite space of childhood.   Our idea to “world school” was born from a year of asking what really matters to us in this moment of time. We realized that while nothing in life is guaranteed that we currently have an abundance of privilege. Health, savings, a home support system, a love for one another and a deep desire to create meaningful experiences together gave us the courage to say yes to this project.
