The Gun That Started World War 1

We went to a museum of the assassination of the prince of the Austrian Hungarian empire. This pistol (above) was used by the murder who’s name was Gavrilo Princip. He stood on the corner of the street across from Latin bridge. There is a bronze cast of where he stood as they drove by. He fired 2 shots killing Sophie who was the Archduke’s wife. The archduke died later of a wound to the chest. If you go to the museum there, I would totally recommend the V/R movie. It adds so much to the story. So you were  basically a driver and you witnessed the entire thing. The assignation caused World War I. There was two attempts to kill him. The first was on the same day and it was done with a hand bomb but it failed and the archduke made to city hall where he gave a speech. And on the way to visit the people wounded in the bombing he was killed  by Gavrilo Princip. They wanted him to die so the reign of the Austrian Hungarian empire would fall and be destroyed. And they would finally get independence.

About Wide Horizons

What if we found the mute button on the cultural messaging around hustle and money being the only currency to respect/strive for. What if we spent a year listening to other messages from humanity? What if we experienced ourselves outside our bubble of privilege? What if we shared a moment of togetherness in this finite space of childhood.   Our idea to “world school” was born from a year of asking what really matters to us in this moment of time. We realized that while nothing in life is guaranteed that we currently have an abundance of privilege. Health, savings, a home support system, a love for one another and a deep desire to create meaningful experiences together gave us the courage to say yes to this project.
