Jelsa, Hvar, Croatia-

We left at 11 sharp and started the hour and a half ferry ride to Hvar. Once we arrived we took a taxi to our place. and that’s where we are now.

Hvar Croatia 14/8/25- Me and my father got up early to go fishing in Jelsa bay for barracuda. After fishing for about an hour we did not catch anything. So we packed up and headed to a cafe. And had a coffee and hot coco.

Hvar, Croatia 14/8/25- On Monday the 11 we started our school. Where we started our play which we are going to act out on the last day. The play is called The Tempest. We figured out the roles, I am the director and King Alonso.

Hvar, Croatia 14/8/25-  Then the next day we went out to school again. Where we worked on our play. And then after we took a boat out in Stari Grad bay. Stari grad was founded by the Ancient Greeks over two thousand years ago. The boat ride  was a ton of fun.

During the field school here we swam every day. This was fun because they would take us to different spots. Such as the light house beach, Stari Grad, and others.

We also worked on a play by Shakespeare, called the Tempest. I was king Alanzo and the director of the play. This was a whole lot of fun because it was my first time acting. I memorized most of my lines but still used the script. It was fun to put together a play with my friends.

We also got to go sailing in Stari Grad bay with my family. We learned a lot, like how to Tack and jibe. This is where you turn the boat one way or the other.

We also snorkeled and got to see the keel under the boat

And of course I caught a fish. The fish I caught were very small but they were very colorful and cute. I caught them with bread. The rig I used was a weighted hand line on a stick.

About Wide Horizons

What if we found the mute button on the cultural messaging around hustle and money being the only currency to respect/strive for. What if we spent a year listening to other messages from humanity? What if we experienced ourselves outside our bubble of privilege? What if we shared a moment of togetherness in this finite space of childhood.   Our idea to “world school” was born from a year of asking what really matters to us in this moment of time. We realized that while nothing in life is guaranteed that we currently have an abundance of privilege. Health, savings, a home support system, a love for one another and a deep desire to create meaningful experiences together gave us the courage to say yes to this project.
